FAQ

Did CONTROL Resonant's release date ever change?
Yes. The game was widely expected in the first half of 2026, and in January 2026 Remedy denied earlier-date rumors before the September 24, 2026 date was officially locked with the June story trailer.
Why is the physical edition later than the digital one?
Retailers such as GameStop list physical copies for October 15, 2026 — about three weeks after the September 24 digital launch. The gap was announced alongside the August 18 gone-gold milestone: manufacturing needed more time.
Can you play CONTROL Resonant early?
Yes — the PS5 Digital Deluxe Edition includes 48 hours of advance access, meaning Deluxe buyers on PlayStation start playing September 22, 2026, two days before the standard launch. There is no public demo or open beta: the hands-on builds shown at Summer Game Fest and gamescom were media and event-only.
Is there a CONTROL Resonant demo?
No public demo exists. The playable builds you may have heard about were media previews and the gamescom floor demo — event-only. Remedy runs closed NDA playtests via its own sign-up page, but those are not public.

Is CONTROL Resonant out?

Yes — out now. The digital launch landed September 24, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with PS5 Digital Deluxe owners in from September 22 via 48-hour early access. The reviews that dropped under the September 18 embargo are collected on the review hub, and the game has already been patched through update 1.4.0 — which added New Game++.

The one date still in the future: physical discs and the Steelbook arrive October 15, 2026. If you are holding out for a disc, that is your finish line; everyone else is already playing.

Is there a demo or playtest?

No public one. Three things get mistaken for a demo: the media preview builds (Summer Game Fest, gamescom, IGN’s exclusive coverage — press only), the gamescom floor demo (event-only, announced July 28), and Remedy’s closed NDA playtests (sign-up is open on Remedy’s site, but every session is under NDA). The earliest the general public can play is the September 22 early access on PS5 Digital Deluxe — or September 24 on everything else.

When do reviews land?

The embargo is officially confirmed: Friday, September 18, 2026, at 6 AM Pacific / 9 AM Eastern — six days before launch. Remedy announced the date itself, and outlets read the six-day gap as a confidence signal (embargoes close to launch usually hint at the opposite). The review hub tracks scores from Friday morning. The launch trailer is also out now, rounding off the marketing run.

How was the date announced?

The rollout came in three beats. Remedy unveiled the game at The Game Awards in December 2025 with a cinematic announcement trailer. A gameplay reveal followed during a PlayStation State of Play. Finally, the June 2, 2026 story trailer put a hard date on the launch — the pattern Remedy used for Alan Wake 2, and the source of most official screenshots circulating since.

Was the release date ever different?

Yes — indirectly. Through late 2025 the community widely expected a first-half 2026 launch, and in January 2026 Remedy publicly denied rumors of an earlier date before the September window was locked. If you saw an older article citing spring 2026, that is the timeline that got corrected.

What should you know now that it’s launched?

Buying windows have mostly closed, but the post-launch picture is what matters now:
