What is the New Growth quest in CONTROL Resonant?
New Growth is a side quest in The Park built around Dr. Raya Underhill, the FBC’s head researcher of the Mold — a returning character from 2019’s Control. The pitch, per the quest description PowerPyx quotes: “Dr. Raya Underhill, the head researcher of the Mold, has gone missing.” By the time you find her, the question is less where she is than what she has been doing unsupervised.
It sits in the zone order exactly where The Park does — optional territory the main line never forces you through, but a full quest chain (Zoe’s Briefing → New Growth → Carbon Copy) lives there.
How do you start New Growth?
Head to The Park > FBC Base, rooftop. Two triggers work (per PowerPyx):
- Finish the Zoe’s Briefing side quest first, or
- Talk directly to the female soldier on top of the FBC Base roof
Either way the missing-doctor hunt opens and the objectives roll.
New Growth walkthrough, step by step
- Ask around about Underhill — including the guard Busken at the FBC Base (per allthings.how’s walkthrough)
- Investigate her last known location
- Check her Central Executive office — it sits behind the Level 6 clearance door in the Oldest House
- Search her apartment in The Park — you will find her in the kitchen area
- Collect her equipment and find her test subjects at her lab in the sewers. If the lab door is locked after you meet her, stop wandering: the key is on the table next to her — a community tip on PowerPyx’s walkthrough that saves a long detour
- Track down and defeat all three Mold specimens — the fight layer of the quest; come prepared for Mold status ailments, because Cleansing Rush halves their duration
- Return and talk to Dr. Underhill — the quest completes, and the final conversation presents the choice
The ending choice (and why it’s safe)
The closing conversation asks what to do with the doctor — report her to the FBC, let her escape, or let her go but keep her samples. It changes nothing mechanically: rewards are identical, and the only difference is a later phone call with Zoe. The full option-by-option breakdown lives on the Underhill choice page; the short version for walkthrough purposes is pick whatever fits your Dylan and move on.
New Growth rewards
- Brass Dusters — artifact: combat abilities deal +50% damage but no Falter effects. A real build decision, not a stat stick: it trades the stun-and-execute loop covered in the combat guide for raw ability damage
- A Zone Level increase for The Park — feeding the same progression the fast travel doors and World Feats do
- Trophy progress — New Growth plus the Carbon Copy questline together unlock the Budding Mycologist trophy, one of the stops on the Platinum road
